- Sprinkler wastewater contained fewer harmful pollutants like heavy metals compared to water from fire hoses
- Fire hose water’s high pH and pollutant levels raised environmental concerns
FM Global reaffirmed the findings in 2021, stating that, without home fire sprinklers, 1.8 billion pounds of greenhouse gases have been emitted into the atmosphere. Installing residential fire sprinklers would have cut these emissions by 97%, preventing 54 million pounds of greenhouse gases.
